FEBRUARY 2009 DOWNLOAD ··· DZAGHE POONCH ··· [instructions for download below] Dzaghe Poonch is a beautiful traditional piece from the Armenian repertoire, which we first heard in 2002 on a recording by Richard Hagopian. We've taken a slightly non-traditional approach to the tempo in this recording, slowing it down to a more introspective pace. And for those listeners who may be interested, it's set to an interesting rhythm called jurjena, which is a count of 10 divided 3+2+2+3. Over the years, we've played the song live on various combinations of instruments — exploring different tonalities and textures. This version, the inaugural recording in Mac's new studio, is played on Iraqi oud and bass tar.
