The original concept for this song was conceived during a recording session in 2003 with Evren Ozan. The melody emerged from a “3 against 4” rhythmic pattern on a Nigerian xylophone.

That track became the song 'Roots & Vines' on Evren's CD 'As Things Could Be', and may very well be the first known recording of Gabe Halberg playing jaw harp.
 
We loved this tune so much we kept playing it as a duo, rearranging it in a new key and moving it to electric oud (that Nigerian xylophone doesn't travel so well).

As a song in the 35th Parallel repertoire, the piece was given back its original proposed title: "Ogre Under the Bonsai Tree". A name like that is just too good to toss out the window!

Live from this past October in Hudson MA, with a didjeridoo solo for starters.
